Tranny fluid,Td6.
As you may all be aware there has been alot writen about what fluid to use the the GM5L40E gearbox. The genuine fluid is ETL-7045E and is not available in Aust so I've been looking,as had Daniel about what to use.Today I got hold of the gearbox specailist that services, rebuilds the factory replacement box's that the Perth LR dealer use's and he said that Castrol TQ dextron VI is the fluid to use.I have had my box flushed today and filled with Dex VI fluid and will change it again in 10K time to made sure it's flushed correctly. The fluid is cheap,$78 for 20 ltres so flushing and changing is quick and easy. Thanks Pat.
I was directed to a Transmission service business here in Brisbane by a local respected Land Rover parts supplier (the owner actually has the same car). Gave them a call and was told that there's no listing for the RR but he has a listing for the X5 and went on to give details which gave me confidence that he had seen them before and put some thought into it. They apparently have done quite a few X5s, L322s and RR Sports, to the point that he knew (without checking) that the L322 is OK to do and the Sport is not possible to remove the pan filter assembly without some modification.
He’s using a synthetic Penrite product that is compliant with Dextron VI – sorry no idea of part numbers. I had mine done couple weeks ago now for $310, the old filter didn’t seem to have any nasties come out and he reported the fluid in quite good condition with near to no matterial on the pan - but mine has only done 78k. Will see how it goes and post any issues.
