Pat, I am a sucker for nice land rovers. I have had (to date touch wood) a great run with the last of the rectangular shaped headlight D2 that I bought new and was one of the last 3 in the country (ie the last of that run so it should be good). So I know good ones in their range can be had. I have a D1 with 300,000k on the clock and it has been very reliable also.
If I had a kitty of $8-12k play money on top of the purchase price of an Range Rover I wouldnt hesitate, as long as I knew what the potential problems were. If I got a good one without any faults I would be $10k ahead and if not I knew what the possible bills could add up to and bought with that in mind...so all is good.
To anyone who is a little miffed about the above link, I posted the list above so people could go in eyes wide open - to do otherwise with such a complicated vehicle with known problems would be absurd. I would hate to buy on the strength of only those who have NOT had problems. I want to know what problems others have had, and the costs of rectifying and also importantly what it might mean if such a problem or problems reared their head off road (which for me is an important issue towing off road).

I've seen that web page before and think it's a very good source of info,it would be better if someone found a different EAS compressor instead of the very exxy OME.If LR's were as bad as they are supposed to be none of us would own them. Pat
the ARB, Bluetongue and a couple of others can deliver the required pressure and volume, but they are fairly big compressors good luck mounting one up.

The linked site above is a really good compilation of experienced issues. Notice that most problems are reported by only one source and there are not many sources reporting multiple problems. Also this collection is EU wide and has a couple of reports in from outside the EU as well.
They are in no way saying that anyone has had or is going to have all these issues.
Show me another vehicle where someone has compiled this sort of data.
Even here on AURLO the information on the D2 is extensive BUT there is no page that easily displays all the known issues in a list form like we see here, and I think it’s safe to say the % of D2s experiencing ongoing issues are higher than L322.

You could make up a list like that on any vehicle made,not just Land Rover/Range Rovers.If you did one on Toyota you could do both a fault and Recall one. Pat

I put the site up for information purposes, particularly given that people often say "Interested in a mark III but what do I look for" etc. I trusted that on this site, and with my previous posts on various boards, the information would be received in the proper spirit...and it has by some who have posted back, but not it seems by everyone. Perhaps no-one should be putting up anything negative about them...personally I would be stoked to see such a comprehensive write up on what can go wrong and is seen going wrong with Discovery 1, 2 and 3/4.
Personally I dont want a Range Rover, and had the opportunity in the past to buy one (a -38a) and lease another one (current model) through my business. I am tempted at times, as my posts attest to, but in the end my preference (and that is all it is) is for Discovery. Does that mean that I should not post in the Range Rover section...arrghh...no..I dont think so. I would hope that most of my posts are constructive.
