YOU have paint in your motor
In BMWs wisdom, they decided to paint the magnesium rocker covers on the 4.4 L322 V8.......on the inside. Most of which is now floating around in the motor and hopefully caught in the filter over time.
Removed the rockers to fix an oil leak (new seals) on mine and decided I couldn't live with putting them back on with the paint on the inside. But you can't acid dip. So I was on my mates sand blaster for three hours. Etched, then crinkle painted flat black.....on the outside only. Glad I did....looks SO much better

I ca top that I actually once saw an engine being assembled that had been painted completely inside. And it was a rover.
