    TD6 CYLINDER HEAD

    Hi Everyone
I have just found out my cylinder head has a crack in it (lots of white smoke)and needs to be replaced.
Anyone know of a head or even a whole engine for sale anywhere in Australia. My car is a 2002 TD6.
Is there anyone out there who reconditiones these engines ,and does an exchange.
What would the price be for a new one.
    Thanks Paul

Just having made 2 phone calls, The $10k mark popped up twice for a exchange motor and labour.

Both contacts never heard of the cracking unless radiator was totally mistreated or a hose blew which would indicate mistreatment or lack of maintenance.

Either way, a 02 model with 192k km's at $35k with it all fixed is probably about the selling price though.

Just after a bit of research that is.
    Good luck mate.

    Brummy,
Has the head been removed and pressure tested? There is more than one way to develop white smoke in a turbo charge diesel.

Is it overheating/overpressurising the cooling system?

Yes the head is off and pressure tested .The mechanic said it has a crack and cant be repaired.I find it hard to believe that you cant get exchange heads in australia,i know they do them in the UK.

35 gorillas is absolutely top dollar for one of these, the sort of price that salesmen get patted on the back for achieving and sales managers take the team down the boozer. One with a sick engine and a repair bill likely in excess of 10 big ones should be selling in the teens or less to be value for money. Send it to auction and probably be offered less than 10.

I agree Brian. I thought it was a little OTT, I had a look myself to see if it made sense to buy it, import the parts and rebuild it, but I couldn't get it all to add up.

Will a BMW X5 diesel head fit same basic engine - maybe cheaper - maybe more espensive.
