This interests me too. Is it just the navigation side of things that your not happy with. Then from a lot of things I have read on rangerovers.net & other forums would point to a BMW mk IV DVD system being the easiest upgrade. Not saying that it is the best just the easiest. But no personal experiance. My new Baby a '04 TD6 which I'm yet to pick up has the screen but no Sat-Nav or phone connection. So also looking at options. May end up with just a portable GPS unit, not sure. But would like to know how you get on.

This is the main gripe I have with this pus box of mine, so anything that actually works would be a great improvement.

As someone who still hasn't got around to fixing the dead pixels on my MID unit, I too am interested.

I installed a Hualingan (competing Chinese made Windows CE do everything unit) into our VW golf about 3 yrs ago and overall we've been quite happy with it. Sound quality is improved over the standard VW head unit - simple plug'n'play into the CANBUS socket - steering wheel controls work, NAV, reverse camera, music + movies all work well. IPod is a bit clunky but works.

Issues are that the Bluetooth is very poor (unusable) - screen is not auto dimming (not really an issue and when I think of it that might be hard with auto headlights) & hard to read when in direct sunlight - it does take a while to load a DVD full of MP3s (about 50 albums), it has a micro AB USB socket (with the death of USB to go I can't find a cable with micro on the A end so can't run USB drive full of stuff).

From what I read, the new Hualingan has improved its processing & decoding power and sound amp significantly and the 7"? screens are also much better.

The Dynavin looks to have some advantages over the new Hualingan, Full A USB plug, Extra SD card slot and a better (duel) processor.

When I did the unit 3yrs back there was a lot of talk about getting an Aus compatible version, can't exactly remember why but radio frequencies, and maps would have to be on the list. The software is pirate so if it does't have Aus maps you're on your own, good news is they are windows so extra / new maps etc are not that hard. Also - are any new head units equipped with a digital radio tuner?

Hi harlie., and just a bit off subject.

Does our DVD MP3s play back in a standard DVD player.

The reason I ask is that the CD player in my RR only plays the first 40 to 50 MP3 tracks before skipping to the next CD, missing the last 100 or so tracks.

I have not found anything to put MP3s on a DVD that will then play in the RRs DVD player.

I contacted BIMMERNAV (spelling??) in the US as they sell this Dynavin unit with a few questions
They didn't recommend this as an upgrade if the car is fitted with factory sat nav screen
They only recommended as an upgrade if the car has std radio (bummer for me)

Apparently its plug and play with std radio But a PIA with new looms to the rear and new dash trims required with factory sat nav screen fitted

FYI price from bimmernav is US was cheapest price I got also, Dynavin wouldn't sell direct and their Aust agent was $300 dearer than US??
