    Tweaking L322 TD6

Coming from a 300tdi where there are a few engine trweaks to a L322 TD6, I ask this question. Are there any on this motor?

A re-map from Toombie will shown good gains. If you look at BMW vehicles for the same period they had better figures than the Rangie even though they use the same engine. The crankcase breather valve is often overlooked and will effect performance slightly. Also best quality air filters for the beast; given the layout of the air intake on this engine. You can get K&N filters from the UK cheap, some don't like these type of filters as their oiled, but can be re-cleaned and oiled at each service.
Like all diesels if the intercooler is clean, the more cool air is pumped into the engine and the better they go..
On my 300Tdi and Td5 I have always used an additive,(fuel quality is so variable) and have never had any fuel or related problems (there is a fine mesh around the in-tank fuel pumps, algae or dirt etc will block this mesh) they can overheat and cause misses or stop the vehicle when they get too hot trying to maintain the fuel pressure. Cold fuel is what it's all about. The injectors will maintain their spray pattern indefinitely if you keep giving them clean fuel, thus performance and economy are maintained. I have seen 2 filters replaced on a vehicle inside 10K WHEN the owner first used a fuel cleaner, the amount of deposits in the tank and fuellines is incredible, Bio-diesel is a natural cleaner and has similar results when first used in a lot of older vehicles, a lot of people initally blamed the fuel but it was their dirty fuel lines etc.

Another tweak for the Td6 would be to blank the EGR valve. On the English forums I've read they all state that engine response is better, engine runs smoother at low revs AND all had picked up 1-2 mpg (.7 kml).
The all advised that you should take off and clean the inlet manifold, all reports said they couldn't believe how much gunk was found in the manifold.

Hi, I agree with Laurie. I disconnected the EGR value entirely, by disconnected and blocking the rubber connecting pipe. In initially I did this, while trying to diagnose an engine problem, but on leaving it disconnected, noticed my fuel economy improved by about 2 mpg. That’s significant when your base line is 23 - 25. I now routinely average 25 - 27, sometimes more on a good run. As far as I know, you can only do this on pre 2006 models, where it won't affect the ECU.
