    Test drive of TD6 Vogue. What to check

    Hi All

    Ive looked through the site trying to learn about possible things to look for in this model (which has a great rep here)

    A mate is test driving one that's at the auctions 2006, 70000km.

    How would he test the air suspension is working ok if he has not driven one before? What clunking is acceptable in the gearbox? If seen stuff about the front diff, how can he verify that's ok if he can at all?

    He should have a good play with the LCD screen to see it's working ok, yes?

    He's been told it has been serviced by the dealer since new but I'm not sure how much more detail he can get.

    Where to start. Press all electrical buttoms to make sure everything works. Electric windows, sunroof, door locks, tailgate, mirrors, seats, etc etc.
    Check pixals on displays
    Check air suspension. Use dial to set height. Standard - Access (no more than 40kph) when standing still or nearly stopped. Standard - Offroad.
    Will only go to Hwy mode when doing 100kph + for a few minutes? but can be lock in that height.
    Check that it changes between high-low- high ranges ( can be done on the move at slow speeds. Up to 16kph )
    If serviced by dealer contact them to see if front drive staft recall has been done.
    Cant think of anything more at the moment.

    Thanks, Gary. That's really helpful.

    I'm already in the fold (LR but not Rangie, yet) but this is a mate who has been looking at LC Toyotas and wanted an LC200 . His interest in this vehicle is an encouraging sign that I can bring him back from the dark side. He was raised in a Landy family but something went horribly wrong somewhere. His family has been beside itself with grief and shame.

    Also, if it has had a full LR service history, then the books should be available to prove this. It is a strong selling point - they will make sure everyone sees them if it is genuine, so if they aren't there, there is a good chance it hasn't been. I wouldn't accept a line like "Yes, it definately has a full LR service history, but unfortunately, the books have been lost..."

    There are many small faults that can be overlooked by those not familiar with the L322. In addition to what others have said, check the following:

    1. Spare key present
    2. Front tow eye cover present
    3. Tow bar included, it is detachable.
    4. Rear wiper works, it often gets water leaks and gums up.
    5. Steering wheel angle and reach work.
    6. Check in the spare wheel well for rust, or water leak.
    7. Luggage cover and retractable screen are present.

    None of the above is really a deal breaker but it can add up to get it corrected/fixed.

    I am in Perth so if you want me to look at it, I can. I have a TD6.

    They are testing it today, I'll leave them to it and see what they think.

    If he wants a towbar, make sure it has the trailer light electrics - that alone is over $1000, it's an extra ECU and it was optional...

    As mentioned above the spare key. Another one is upwards of $500.

    Plastic trims around the seat edge cost quite a few hundred as well.

    Eas is working if no faults show up after pressing all the settings. These things have more potential faults than the p38, but they don't happen as often. I thought I would be tricky the other day and inflate my air tank with a shed compressor, only to have a fault saying 'air tank pressure increasing without compressor running'. It's too smart for bozo's like me to mess with.

    That one in the auctions looks nice, but I hate that colour.

    Thanks everyone for your helpful replies but I am sorry to say he ended up choosing an LC200 in Darwin that he is driving back now.

    At least this excellent advice is here in the archives for others to use.
