    "new" rangie towing "new" caravan

    As some of you may know, I had a D130 with a Trayon camper about a year ago.
    So the decision was made to sell the 'fender, and go for a L322, so the trayon ended up on a trailer.
    We used it this summer and we decided the Trayon was too small for us and 2 little ones, so we have recently sold that.
    Yesterday I picked up our "new" caravan ('06 16ft Jayco expanda outback) and had to tow it from Melbourne (Braeside) to near Geelong.
    I was a little concerned about the towing ability of the 3lt diesel, but was REALLY pleasantly surprised, she sat on the speed limit as stable and happy as you like, gliding past a few others in rigs that were all pointing there noses in the air, looking rather unstable.
    I have to say I love the EAS, it was great to see the weight of the caravan go on the hitch, then the whole rig level itself in a few seconds!
    Looks like I'll be getting 15-16 l/100km at 100km/h with no headwind.

    Nice! I've only towed once with ours, and only with a small van on the back, but it was very good. You got any pics to post to make us all jealous? If your not up to anything on the weekend, come out to Wombat and test out both the van and the Rangie. I'll have ours (Rangie) there, so I won't be doing anything too stupid off road with it - I would never hear the end of it if I give it back to SWMBO on Tuesday with a dint (or worse) in it...

    I was just amazed bu how "rock steady" the car was compared to anything else I've towed with.

    As for this weekend, the plan is to try and get there on Sat morning sometime.

    It be completely honest I have no idea, the previous owner made them!
    I'm guessing short tent poles?
    If I were to drop something in them my arms are too short to reach the bottom!
    I am thinking of removing them and putting on a shallow cabinet/cupboard for keeping lots of odds and ends in (electrical connectors, small hand tools, cables, etc.).

    TD6 Power Upgrade

    Anyone towing maybe interested in this. I recently had the power upgrade by Hunter Cuthill in Geelong, I really recommend it for towing, brought home my new (to me) Trakmaster 4M van a few weeks ago, hardly knew it was there. The upgrade is simply remapping, nothing plugged in. Torque supposed to increase 18% power 15%, the improvement is quite noticeable. Disclaimer: I have no interest in Hunter Cuthill other than relying on them to fix any hard problems with the Rangie.
