    Rhino Racks Roof Racks

I am off to look at the Rhino Rack range of roof racks for the L322 soon.
I am split between the heavy duty aero RLCP rack
Rhino Rack - Roof Racks for LAND ROVER Range Rover 4WD 08/02 On
    or Sportz RSP rack
Rhino Rack - Roof Racks for LAND ROVER Range Rover 4WD 08/02 On

I like the less intrusive look of the Sportz but at times will be carrying a Howling Moon roof tent so is this up to the task?
The RLCP has strength but looks a bit more bulky.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks
    Adrian

you will find the usable bar length of the sportz kit a bit short. Also 80kg?

I have the 3 Heavy Duty Aero bars. There is no noise if windows are closed, slight noticeable whistle with windows open at highway speeds but the front bar makes the sunroof unusable (wind turbulence is unbearable). I’m happy with them, get used a lot.

They don’t fit to the roof very well, it’s not they aren’t strong because they are – very very solid. It’s just the black mounding at the base of the leg doesn’t snug the roof like they do on other makes (there’s an uneven gap between the leg and roof panel) and I was (to start with) a bit disappointed with the “fit & finish” given the price. But since no-one else seems to notice I’ve got past it… And it could be seen as a good thing – the leg doesn’t touch the roof at all. I asume the sportz will be the same re fit.

If you get a set I can document an easy modification I did to them to make removal/refit much much quicker - gets rid of the proprietary brass fittings which IMO are a little lite as well.

On my 04 td6 I went for a full length tradesman oval roof rack but without any sides, I looked at the rhino but also found it didn't fit the vehicle as I wanted, generally very happy with the tradesman rack for the price..about $850

I've also go the 3 Heavy Duty Aero Bars on my L322. As Harlie said fit is a bit ordinary, small gap between roof & feet. But then will leave less of a make on roof. Mine are also a bit noise with sunroof open. Went for the full lenght bar over the sports bar as I wanted the extra lenght. Currently only fitted a Thule Motion 200 top box. In shed foxwing. To buy long narrow wire basket

I'm happy with mine. Looked at other systems but this is what suited me

Not near the vehicle till next week, but am more than happy to post some photos up then. In the meantime, if you google, tradesman roof racks in Melbourne, there is actually a pic of a l322 in their catalog.

I have the Rhino Vortex bars on RLCP legs. I do have some heavy duty bars that I could swap on if needs be.

Harlie, I would be interested. I'm not sure why Rhino used the brass fittings. They don't hold down the rack foot. Why not just use a longer SS screw? The only reason I can think of are (1) longer SS security screws weren't available, or (2) the brass fitting are designed to snap if the roof bars hit something. That would be preferable to damaging the roof which could write the car off.

I'm used to the Thule bars I had on the P38A which came off in less than a minute by simply unlocking and opening them.

Regrettably, the bar spacing is such on the L322 that the D3/D4 roof rack I had on the P38A is far too short for the L322. (The overall length over the L322 bars is 1700mm but the D3/4 rack is only 1600mm overall.)

I went for Whispbars- Prorack I think; seem to be able to take a GOOD load. Almost quiet!
3 bars fitted. Yes, they will sell you a 3 bar set.

During house renovations had to carry lots timber (200kg+) no trouble, as long as spread across.
I picked up a S/H 2 meter long ROLA roof rack that fits on top when needed, but height getting up a bit; it goes on for the "big" loads! Naturally had to modify its mounting clamps a bit.

    And no, I don't have a sunroof!

I'd like to hear what your mod was Harley.
I stripped the threads in 4 of the 6 brass adapters on the trip to Surveyor Generals Corner and ended up having to tie the front of the rack down with straps. The next French line crossing I didn't fix the tray to the middle bar and had no worries.
