L322 Depression valve & oil sludge

Hi to all from a new member
    Purchased my L322 new.
Twice the depression limiter filter has blocked sending oil gushing out of the motor. Dealer cleaned out the turbo hose but now that I have the manifold off to replace an injector I find heaps of sludge in the manifold and inlet ports.
I am thinking that I probably need to remove and clean the intercooler.
    All suggestions and comments welcomed.
I will replace the depression valve filter with the BMW cyclonic arrangement. Has anyone done that and have any advice.

Ditch your EGR valve as well. It carbons up the sludge. And from past experience you will get yourself and everything around you filthy when you clean the manifold. I started with a degreaser then petrol followed by hot soapy water scrub it and swill it out. Removing and replacing the manifold is an easy job. Removing the inter cooler is a PIA as the front bumper comes off.

What did you need to do to do away with the EGR valve?
I cleaned out the cylinder head ports today and cannot believe that the dealer would just reassemble after replacing an injector with all of that sludge about.
What started this? The car has 113,00 K's on the clock.
The car would not start so was a tow truck ride (4th or is 5th time) to the dealer who replaced the chassis mounted fuel pump (second time) then advised that the car needed a number 4 injector, re-assembled then advised that it needed a number 2 injector so I have the car back and doing it myself.
I was once a diesel mechanic and have purchased a set of workshop manuals so no big deal to do it myself plus I learn more about the car.

The intercooler is a PITA to get out but the hoses are easy,I'd remove them and flush the cooler in place.EGR's are the dumbest thing fitted to diesels, like you've found out they fill the motor with crap. Pat

    EGR Removal

You can simply make your own blocking plate to cover the start of the egr nightmare on the exhaust manifold, then remove & clean out your egr valve and you’re good to go. I do like the idea of less restrictive flow with the kit linked but if you would rather save your cash it’s not at all necessary
