    TD6 Injectors

After a workshop replaced one injector then told me another needed to be replaced at around 870 bucks (fitted) I took the car back. Took all 5 remaining injectors to John Diesel in Hallam Victoria, ultrasonic clean and test and all were OK including the one the workshop wanted to replace. Cost to ultrasonically clean and test: $22.00 each.
You may want to try these people who have great equipment.
It seems that many garages these day just want to fit new parts and are not interested in offering alternatives. No or very litle consideration of the cost to the customer.
I have no doubt whatsoever that the injector replaced could have been cleaned and it would have been OK.
It is all a learning curve!

I run trucks and earthmoving equipment for a living, the number of times I have questioned or looked further into a repair or 'part that needs replacing'' and found that it doesn't need replacing or can be pulled apart and refurbished is mind-blowing. A good, recommended mechanic that knows his trade is worth every cent, even if it requires traveling, and paying a little more.

    Thanks Summiitt

I was once a diesel mechanic but at nearly 71 years I did not want to start crawling under this car but now I will do all myself as it would take me a long time to vocalise all that has gone wrong with dealer servicing.
When I did my time which I admit was just after the horseless carriage was introduced we built our own fuel pumps, water pumps, reco'd cylinder heads, built pressure plates and a myriad of other tasks. Now: just get a new part and the customer can pay even if we get it wrong.

A follow up to my post: I got the car running today after fitting the serviced injectors at $22.00 each plus $3.00 for a washer that the stealer wanted $15 for.
The car runs as sweet as you could want.
Consider this before spending hundreds per injector on new ones.

    Hi uteman,

Can you tell me what made you take your rangie in for the injectors.

I suspect mine is playing up with rough idling and shuddering in drive and reverse at low revs.

Not sure what I am up for yet.

    Thanks
    Tyrone

    TD6 Injectors

Tyrone: The car would not start and before that it was running a bit rough.
Further to the injector issue it turned out that I had purchased some bad fuel with both water and a blend of animal/vegtable oil. The water contant was 21 times the allowable limit and there was 14.4% vegtable/animal oil.
Currently "trying" to have a go at the fuel outlet as this cased considerable damage and stress.
