    2003 TD6 ECU

Are these reprogramable or do you need to upgrade to new ecu? Having had my TD6 for close on 2 years now with no problems I noticed a large smoke fog behind it last night as I accelerated up a steep hill. Admittedly I had half the product from Ikea weighing it down at the time. Is there a standard map available? Jim

Yes they are. The dealer will have a latest "update", which I suspect is several years old now and if your car has been to a dealer in the last (say 4 years) you will already have it. It usually doesn't change the fuel mappings (much more to the EMS than the map) and there's a good chance they can't tell you exactly whats in it because they don't know.

To my knowledge there is no aftermarket gear that will enable you to change the fuel map other than those devices supplied by tuning companies like Superchips (Bluefin) or BAS, and these are VIN locked - My Bluefin device will only talk to my car, when you retune the device saves the factory file and loads the new one, so its possible to reload the original later, however they can supply a factory spec map if for some reason your original backup fails. So to answer you question, it would be possible to pay a tuning company for a standard tune.

The idea of creating a standard map for various spec car and loading up like Nanocom (for TD5) is not there - and it actually highlights the niche that Nanocom originally provided.

If you have excess smoke, look at mechanicals first - air filter, injector cleaner like fuel doctor ect. Then maybe sensors. Even remapped, the TD6 should be very good for smoke.

Also have you changed your crankcase breather lately. Can create problems for the turbo if not. I'm about to do mine

    I'm with Gary.

The crankcase filter does gum up (makes sense when you think about it) so I'd be checking and/or replacing that if the rangie is getting a little smoky under load.

    BTW, just curious Gary.

I am hoping the link you supplied above was just to demonstrate what the assembly looks like to find it, otherwise why would you be changing the whole assembly? Why not just the filter? Like this one:-

RANGE ROVER L322 3.0 DIESEL CRANK CASE BREATHER FILTER - LLJ500010

Much cheaper and they supply the assembly gaskets as well.

    Cheers,

    Hi Iain

The link I provided is for the upgraded BMW breather. Various threads on fullfatrr.com about changing to this style. Set & forget I think.

A little bit of confusion about if its Part no, 11127799224 or 11127799225 for conplete unit and 11127799367 for just oil seporator.

Adrian in NZ fitted 11127799224 but had to change screws

Hope this makes it a bit clearer

Ah, now it becomes clearer. Before it was just as clear as a colloidal solution of soil and water.

I have read mixed reports of conversions to this form of breather although that was some time back and it may have resulted from confusion regarding the correct part number, as you point out.

Thanks for the response. The link definitely makes sense in that light. I'd be most interested in some feedback on how it goes for you after replacement.

Apologies to the mods if I have hijacked the thread. Normal service will resume directly.

    Cheers,
    Iain

Just changed my crankcase breather. 11127799224. Didn't take long.

Housing looks the same as original. Only difference is size of surlpied screws , Smaller allen key needed. Easy to swap for originals.

To me you only need the internal separator 11127799367.

    Hi Harlie

The screws are different in that one is 5 mm allen key other is 4mm allen key

In the original breather there is a "foam " filter. New design appears as just plastic cone. Think it sends oil back to where it came from.

    Compare.
