    L322 TD6 Box Issues.

I have been a proud owner of a 2003 L322 TD6 for just under 8 months now. It has just under 180,000Ks on the clock and will be booked in for a freshen up.

    HOWEVER

Over the past few days a few concerning issues have arrived, after engaging low range for the first time since i purchased the vehicle and then re engaging high range i have come across a repetitive fault "Transfer Neutral". When this first began i re engaged low range and went for a 2K drive down my driveway and back and then i removed and inspected the plug on the transfer case. This solved the problem for a few days. This fault comes up VERY frequently now (70 times in just 20minutes drive home last night) and then i was unable to engage low range until i turned the vehicle off and on again.

    AND THEN

To further my concerns whilst driving in sports mode the gearbox no longer automatically shifts up through the gears. And a "TransFailSafe. Prog" message (or something of this kind) and the low range light would flash on and off occasionally and creating a surging.

    SUMMARY

    1. "Transfer Neutral" message.
    2. "TransFailSafe.Prog" message.
    3. Low range light illuminating whilst driving in high range causing surging.
    4. Sport Mode not shift up through the gears automatically.

I have had my battery load tested and it has come back ok, however it does have a dodgy negative connection. Does this sound like the start of a dieing Transfer Case? or worse the Main Box packing up shop?

    Kind Regards, James.

The first bit sounds like the transfer case range selector motor - a fairly common fault on vehicles that rarely use low range. Transfer failsafe could be bad, but it sounds like you have electrical gremlins as well, so cross your fingers... But at those km, it could be your trannie on the way out...
