L322 MY dates for new buyers

    Just a word of warning!!!

I was looking thru some ads for a friend who is considering buying a L322, many ads had the wrong MY date when the VIN was checked in Topix. One vehicle was advertised as one owner, and claimed to have been sold as the MY given. When I questioned the seller about the MY he got upset and he claimed it was sold to him by LR as that year model.( ? )
Topix showed it was a 04 build model, sold in 05 ; BUT the Australian Compliance plate was 05 !!!

It pays to check the VIN in Topix

There's no need to check using TOPIx if you know the VIN breakdown.

The 10th digit of the VIN is the Model Year.

For instance SALLMAMA33A123456 is a 2003MY. It could be built in 2002, complied & registered in 2004 but it is a 2003MY.

Mines a MY05 built 13/12/04 if that helps

But a lot of cars built mid year carry MYxx of the next year.

Chevrolet have already released their MY14 Silverado's ??

Someone feel free to contradict me here but I recall hearing/reading that the turnover point for model years was around August.

That is, if you car rolled off the line in September (and maybe sometime in August) then it had the next years MY designation.

For example, Build date of my L322 is Oct 02, but the VIN shows Model Year of 03. It was complied in Australia in 03.

That was then, and it may have changed along with LRs ownership over ensuing years.

    Cheers,
    Iain

That's often the case but not a rule set in concrete.
