Got some measurements?
I've got a bit of a problem here that I'm hoping someone can solve. I have just replaced the intercooler on the L322 but there are 2 'X' ring style seals that fit in the adaptor between the boost hoses and the intercooler. One of these was U/S and when I first enquired about them, I was told by the Stealers that they came with the intercooler. I didn't buy one from them as it was $800 cheaper overseas. The part came - it is an OEM part, in a LR box, made in Germany. To my surprise there were no seals in it.
I contacted the supplier who checked several other boxes and confirmed that they didn't come with the intercooler - he thought as well that they did, but it seems that at some stage they have change this.
I also rang the Stealers back and asked them again. They said they USED to be included, but are not sure now. They don't stock of the intercoolers, so they can't check...
Now it gets harder, as no one I have talked to can even find a part number for these seals. They don't come with the intercooler any more and they don't come with the boost hoses.
Tried the local bearing wholesalers who sent the seal to a specialist who has been unable to match it or supply an alternative. They can make some for me but I would need to order at least 1000 units...
SO - does anyone know the part number, or know what may work instead, or have an old intact unit lying about they want to sell me?
I've got a car going no where because of a small seal...

Got some measurements?
Not at the moment. The busted and good X rings are at the bearing wholesaler until I can swing past and pick them up - probably Monday. Too dark to measure the pipes tonight, but I'll measure them up in the morning as best I can.

I think the best and quickest way to get a answer would be to contact Jeremy Fearn in the UK. He's the man for LR intercoolers.

Also have you checked with your local BMW stealer to see if the early 3.0 X5's run the same intercooler ?

Had a look at Micrcat. But all it shows is intercooler & hoses. Sorry Gav

Well, thought I'd give you all an update. Bottom line is the Rangie is back on the road, and running very well.. I have a feeling that it has had a small boost leak for a long time as it goes like a cut cat now - much better acceleration than previously, so I'm stoked.
The following is a bit long winded, so I won't blame you if you don't read on...
Now, where did I get the quad seal from I hear you ask... What a story that is...
So basically, EVERYONE I spoke to put this in the too hard basket. LR said they come with the factory intercooler, but when pressed on this matter admitted they couldn't be sure. The supplier who sold me the intercooler was very helpful, but came up empty handed. Everyone else I called couldn't find the part on microcat so they didn't exist.
The BMW dealers were useless, had no idea what I was talking about, and like LR, don't keep an intercooler in the country for an X5 so I couldn't even get them to check.
I went into a large national bearing wholesalers who said they couldn't match it, but they could send it to a seal manufacture to see if they could make one. They came back with "Yes we can get them made for $4.26 each.... BUT minimum order was 1000 pieces"...
I was starting to think all was lost, and I was having a chat to a mate who is a Truck Mechanic and runs his own shop. I showed him the seal, and he said that his local seal guy could make one easy, and there was no minimum order. He called the rep up who was in the area and dropped in an hour later. He measured it up and said they could make one for under $100, but why don't you just use an off the shelf quad seal? I told him that everyone I talked to said it was an odd size.
He agreed that while it was, there were seals available that were very close to the dimensions of mine. He sent me home with some O rings that were close, and said if any of those work, then he could get a quad seal the same size. The first O ring I fitted was perfect, so a day later, he had the quad seal for me - free of charge what's more! He was happy to do it and get me on the road, as my mate is a good customer of his - how good is that?
Wish I'd chatted to my mate about it a bit earlier...
