Out planespotting kc30a's on a few corrigated roads at the back of the airbase a metal grinding sound started. I immediately thought it sounded like I must have hit one of the brake disc shields and dented it and it was grinding on the disc.
Straight home, and after a bit of my wife driving the car, worked out it was the rear drivers side wheel, so off it came. Fairly quickly I found this hiding between the disc shield and the disc itself:
I took the two calliper bolts out and inspected the area and can't for the life off me work out what it is or where it came from, as nothing appears to be missing. Also I don't know how it got in there as I had to put a fair bit of leverage on the sheild to move it enough to get this spring pin out. Its got a 5mm hex pattern in the hole.
I don't see how it got in there apart from being there when the disc was replaced by the pervious owner's mechanic. Or is it some part I am too blind to see where it came from and I have to replace it ASAP?
