Get a diesel. The petrol ones chew huge volumes of fuel which is not ideal for remote travel.

If he does that Vlad then the auto tranny becomes an issue - $'s and hassle.

I wouldn't be buying a second hand Range Rover and driving to the Pilbara in Summer.
In many ways you are setting yourself up for trouble.
Unknown Car, Heat like you have likely never seen and no competent mechanics for over 1000 ks that will look at it.

Just the common sense stuff - but in particular ensure the auto box has had a flush, and if your going real remote maybe drop a new radiator in it and ensure the cooling system is in top nick.

you may want one of the myiad of reset computers available. Also ensure you have a fully charged second battery, which saved me 6 weeks back on the Strzelecki.

But as stated above, they chew some petrol, are pretty economical for the size and weight of the car, but still chew a bit especially if your not doing 95 on the bitumen.

Fuel consumption is pretty good as far as Im concerned.
On a trip such as you are planning you will see sub 14L/100km, 100L tank, there is no way, unless you are going off road seriously that you are going to be out of range of fuel.
As already stated be sure to get the Radiator checked out.
I have just bought the same model that you are looking at in a V8.
The hoses at the rear of the engine I would be taking a real good look at, they are an out of sight out of mind sort of thing, I changed all of mine just after I bought it.
Be sure to change the fuel filter as well, I bet it still has the original.
Dont believe the stealer stamps they are all BS as far as Im concerned, unless it has an itemised report on each service.
Reliability Mmmm its a thorny question, I pretty well know every inch of my RR, and yesterday I had a head gasket go, absolutely no warning at all.

Im thinking that my P38 is more reliable at this stage.
But for a great drive on the highway with tones of power and comfort they are a good thing.
I dont think I would bother with a diesel to be honest, if you want to drive a tractor get a Toyota with a tractor engine.

The diesel six is far from a tractor.

The ZF behind the V8 is a lot more fragile than the GM box.
If the cooling system on the V8 is a concern (and an awful lot have pressurization problems), then the gearbox will also overheat badly.

The car sold, so I wont be getting that.
