    Fuel economy on TDV8

So I was surfing Youtube re the TDV8 and came across this vid 42.1 MPG that's around 5.6 L/100 can it be ?
Sounds very low, I was happy to hear around 9L/100highway driving .

I can reset the trip computer on ours at the top of the SE Freeway (Crafers, South Australia) and it will read zero all the way to the bottom of the hill. By the time I get home (mostly downhill) it will still be about 3 or 4 litres per hundred.

Realistically around town it seems to be about 12-13 litres per hundred, open road at 110-115 kph will see 10 litres per hundred, and 100kph or less will see about 8 litres per hundred.

That is a 3.6 with the six speed gearbox. I am led to believe the 4.4 with the eight speed box is quite a bit better.

Not from my experience Big Jon - I get similar to you. Will be interested to hear what Greg gets (also has 4.4TDV8).

I've seen sub 7l/100km driving between Brisbane and Noosa on highway by myself and sitting with cruise on 100. But around town in (constant) stop start driving (no freeway) its always around 13l/100. I guess if I always did a blend of both (so called city / highway) it would probably get around 10l/100 which is still remarkable for a car of its size.

    cheers

Much the same for me Chris, about 13 around town, 14-15 towing the boat around town. On a 500km round trip to Dunsborough down the Forrest Highway after Christmas I average exactly 9/100km.

Towing a 2.5 ton boat on the highway at 100kmh bumps it up though, roughly 15-16.

Pretty good for 2.8 tons of machinery with the aerodynamics of a fridge.

Harlie I had a remapped TDV6 3.0 Sport until six months ago, my TDV8 is only marginally more thirsty and in some cases less so.

    8 speed would help.

Interestingly, my TD6 remap, increased city fuel consumption, decreased highway consumption. Average slightly lower.

There was a late model tdv8 rr entered in an Australian 'green challenge' last year. I don't remember the details except that it outshone a Prius and was supposedly banned and from future challenges as not being in the so-called 'spirit' of the challenge... which sounds typical sour grapes of the Green inspired PC brigade... if you can keep right foot under control i am sure some quite astonishing results could be achieved under ideal conditions
