Touch wood: the "hybrid" is working fine, but still get some hunting up and down but only when changing speeds on cruise! All in the electronics I'm afraid and will just leave that alone.
The Caddy XLR T/C that came with the 5L50E gearbox seems fine although not a big drop in stall speed; around 2600rpm. It doesn't just bolt in where old one was though; requires some flywheel machining/drilling new PCD's ( I made new heavier 4mm drive plate), spacers, spigot bush.
Now just have to sort out this *##@&#!** "immobilised" engine!

I believe that the 5L50E still has "bigger" clutch packs than any of the 5L40's ; bigger in that they have an extra plate in most packs.
Externally, same casting main box.
