This has got to be one of the first, "Help, how do I STOP my LR from working"
![]()
Well, I've finally had some time to screw the TD6 back together. Head back on, cams timed correctly, new turbo on. Just have a few hoses, inlet manifolds and injectors to do.
Now, before I fire it into life, I want to crank the engine for a while and make sure I have a lot of oil everywhere. Is there a fuse I can pull - fuel pump? - so I can crank the **** out of it without it wanting to fire?
Just looking for th easiest, sure fire way of ensuring it won't fire until I'm ready for it...![]()

Unplug the injector harnes from the engine ECU
Or Unplug the inline pump (engine ecu won't send the injectors a signal because low side pressure is down).
L322 3.6TDv8 Lux
Leave the key off and apply 12VDC to starter solenoid
do you want that permanently stopped or just temproary.
if its just temporary disconnect the ECU and then use the wire direct to starter motor method to crank it on the starter...
For permanent
Thermite.

To pre-lube the engine with oil prior to starting... another method is to use one of those $10 centrifugal pumps driven by an electric drill (cordless drill is ample) and pump oil "up" through attachment where the filter screws on.
Pump two or three litres through and it will circulate and prime the oil pump as well. I'm not familiar with the TD6, but if the filter mounts vertically then fill it with oil before screwing it back into place. You'll have almost "instant" oil pressure and full galleries... I've used this method a few times now and it seems to work really well.

Just temporary Dave..
Although if the bloody thing doesn't work after all this, then I may ask you where to get some thermite from...

your place its just rust and ally properly mixed and lit off with a magnesium strip.
of course if it wont start you could just use a pump sprayer to feed it fuel into the air intake while you crank it and once its caught on the petrol start spraying diesel in at ever increasing rates...
(I am going to find and handgrenade a turbo diesel properly one of these days)

Unplug the cam sensor. Easy to access. No starting. Just need to clear the fault when done
