Yep, I think it's doable, but I have yet to find anyone that has done it. The 5 speed from the X5 looks like it will bolt up using the flywheel and clutch off the X5. Clutch fork could be an issue as far as clearance goes (only based on photos from the net), but a concentric hydraulic throw out bearing would solve this.

The NV225 box should bolt up to the 5 speed - I've seen pics of the back of both the single speed X5 TC (NV125) and the Rangie NV225 - they look identical, but I couldn't get anyone to measure it up.

The gearbox is a slightly different length, so driveshafts would need to be modified. Clutch pedal looks doable with an all in one pedal/master cylinder like a race car uses, but you'll need to pull the dash right out to fit it.

Not 100% sure where the gear stick comes through the tunnel - the shifter may need modifying, but one way or another, I think you can make that work.

The 5 speed boxes are quite rare over here, and will cost you a bomb if you manage to find one, so importing one may be easier.

Not sure if the later 6 speed manual will work - haven't seen the details on that one to know.

The electronics need a small tweak - when you unplug the auto, the car things your in second, so won't start, but once it's running and you unplug the auto, the engine still runs, so I'm not thinking that's a major one. It's been discussed before - the auto doesn't interact with the engine much anyway by the sounds of it.

So. - when are you starting?. Only reason I haven't started myself is that I don't have the dollars for it at the moment and my Auto is fine (ATM).

My gearbox was rebuilt before I got the car. So far no problems but...
Just wondering if manual was an option. Mate of mine has had his rebuilt 4 times, but he does pull a heavy van. So much so that he now wants to sell the car as he has bought a Landcruiser. Jim

Like the 6HP26 conversion, I'm more concerned about how the TC/ABS/EBFD/DSC systems are going to react. They may be ok as long as the road speed feed is there, but all these systems also recieve the "current gear" variable. What they do with it I'm not sure.

I think that right across the range of modern 4wd's the manufacturers seem to be sacrificing reliability to get more power and economy.

    x2.

Mines just had its second rebuild becasue the first place that did the job (and charged ALLOT) has flawed procedures.

Only one way to find out for sure.
