    TDV8 19" rims and tyres

    After seriously considering advice for and against from forum members, Im looking at a 08MY TDV8 L322 with 19" rims (yep trashed the ad for L322 on coils). Im serious this time honest. Wow what a machine, more power and torque than a SDV6 D4.

    The brake callipers sit very close to the rim. Im assuming the D3/4 18" rim won't fit and the GOE 18" rim is the only option if I want to go smaller.

    Also, if 19" is the only affordable option (i.e. a D/3/4 won't fit & I can't afford GOE's at this time), which tyre/size is the next best off road AT/LT option to suit a 19" rim on a L322?

    The TDV8 Vogue looks like the bargain of the century to me at current prices. I was doing the same but they all seem to have 20inch rims and I was thinking of whether my spare D4 19inch rims could be used to replace the 20's if I bought one. Drivesafe doesn't think much of them though, after his problems.

    From what I can gather the offset is different to the D4 so D4 19 inch rims or GOE 18 inch rims may not fit. Also, GOE doesn't mention the L322 at all. However, that is only what someone posted on here and I don't know the real facts.

    Maybe Gordon will chime in and provide some advice because I gave up on it and will stick to Discos based mainly on the 20 inch rims.

    This one has 19" rims already, I was hoping to go to 18" tyres. Alternately stay with the current rims and get a 19" tyre with more wall height.

    You are lucky if you can find one with 19 inch wheels. A lot of the manufacturer's details on Carsales say 19 inch wheels but the sellers text says 20 inch or more and the photos show more than 19. The Wicki says there was a shortage of 19 inch wheels and a lot in Aus were fitted with 20 inch. I would only consider buying one if at least 19 inch wheels can easily be fitted and preferably GOE 18 inch.

    Good luck with your purchase. It should be a great vehicle if you can get the right one.

    GOE 18's fit all early TDV8 Vogues (3.6 litre 6 speed auto).

    A Member on here (another Chris) has them on his TDV8 Vogue in Brisbane (jealous )

    Sadly, they will NOT fit the later (MY11 onwards I recall) with the bigger 380mm/365mm brakes, also used on TDV8 L405 cars. ie All 4.4TDV8 8 speed cars got BIGger brakes again. 19's WILL fit these cars, but only certain styles of 19 inch rim. TDV8 "Luxury" models and Autobiog models always got 20 inch or above;

    So, only a very few, non Luxury model RRV's TDV8's cars are out there riding on 19's.

    cheers

    and presumably doesn't have the fluffyness of the cut-in/cut-out off the 3.0's secondary turbo. When upshifting whilst the secondary is in use but not particularly in use at the lower revs of the higher gear, ie between about 2000 and 2300 rpm in the lower gear, my 3.0 losses its way in maintaining torque. I expect the TDV8 with its true twin turbos would be silky smooth.

    Unlike Graeme, I can't pick when the second turbo does its thing on my D4. I've never experienced anything like what Graeme is saying and my car is almost a sister to his, being a 2010 3l.

    I think you need to get your wife to drive it for you Graeme, and she will put her foot down a bit more! When I drive mine after my wife uses it all week, the average fuel consumption starts dropping even though I like using the available power, so I don't know what she does. I don't even have any oil scavenger problems and it hasn't had any drain mods that I know of.
