Tow hitch height / Bushtracker Van

Hi guys, we've just bought a 2nd hand Bushtracker (family) Caravan, and the former owner (like many) used a LC200 to tow it, with a height adjustable, WDH used.

I dont pick the Van up for a few weeks (its up North) and am planning ahead. The existing height adjustable hitch (I'm talking about the tow hitch you insert into the RR tow assembly) wont fit the RR (the shaft is too short), and I'm a little worried the RR standard tow hitch might be too low (at 350mm from road).

So, does anyone know where I could get a (presumably custom made) new height adjustable hitch?

You cannot turn a standard hitch upside down - clever LR thought you might try that and it wont fit that way around!

I dont intend using the WDH chains etc - based on others posting here and the BT Forums who tow BT's with D3 and D4 and RRS without using it (also per LR advice).

    Cheers

    Chris

I made my own and set it at aprox 460mm to the centre of the ball or level with the top of the rear bumper for the same reason , you just need to watch when opening the tail gate whilst you have a trailer attached, it could get ugly

Hayman Reece have a unit that may suit you. Solid shaft rated to 3.5 tonnes ( I think ) . Its awhile since I bought it . Raises the tow ball comsidereably. Long shaft. Needed it for my off road caravan. So I've got 2 hitches std & raised. Check out your nearest Hayman Reece dealer Will try to find you a part # later

Please get the ball weight actually measured before you pick it up... You would be surprised just how mant BT vans are over 400kg on the ball after their owners start adding stuff to the drawbar....:-( the same goes for tare, you are rated for 3500kg, make sure you get a current weighbridge cert. If you are over any of the legal tow weights, then no insurance.

The bushtracker are already a heavy van, doesn't take long to exceed the allowable weights.
