TD6 Thermostat. Use genuine Land Rover parts only

    Hi

Some may remember my issues with the TD6 cooling system a little while ago requiring a new thermostat - I used an aftermarket part.

Well after the engine started running cool again I removed the engine thermostat to discover it had fallen apart - the bracket that is part of the plastic housing that secures the metal thermostat in place had broken off and the stat was rattling around un-secured.

I have now fitted a Genuine thermostat (from the UK) and also discovered that the aftermarket stat was also calibrated too high.
Genuine has the engine operating between 92 and 97
Aftermarket had the engine operating between 102-106

The spec in RAVE - thermostat starts to open at 88 - testing the aftermarket unit in a pot showed it didn't move until 95/96. I would think the higher temps would also increase system pressure.

Part numbers on the boxes were correct.

That's a good pickup, I hope Bacicat can put it under the message of the radiator cap at the start of the threads. BMW engines with genuine cooling parts only !!!!!!! for long engine life.
