    Transfer Neutral warning

    I had a rash of these dings a"transfer Neutral " come up again even after doing a manual reset on all codes and also putting the fuse back into 37 then out again following the guide and doing several changes through from low to high & back.
    I did some reasearch and found this is the culprit the potenometer on the transfer engage motor. It tells the motor where it is ie engaged disengaged neutral . you can see how on the pics ahead. Now i know its only 3 bolts to remove and i reckon a clean up with some contact cleaner will fix it. I also read that you have to be careful and mark the position of the lead bolt and dont move it. I can only post 1 pic at a time withnthe ipad so this will carry over to another post.

    More detail

    Rather than pull it out sraight away i thought i would try and wear it in a bit as i doubt this vehicle has ever seen a dirt road and low has probably never been used. I just drove around Palm Beach shifting from high to low 50 times and it seems to be working fine. I hope i might have worn off a bit of corrosion . After reading overseas forums this is aparently a common problem and will send the gearbox into failsafe mode. Mine has done this once and tripped out of cruise control a few times as well. I wonder how many gearboxes have been pulled out & rebuilt because of this fault . Aparently you cant buy a potenometer by itself you have to getbthe whole motor assembly. I will see how my quick fix goes and if it plays up again i will pull it out and givevit a clean & add some nonconductive silicon.

    There was a guy on the FFRR site that was making some. He had a prototype made and was going into production at some stage. I'll go and have a look.

    Hope you get it sorted as apart frm that, LR only want to sell you the whole unit.

    So far so good

    My wearing in process seem to have worked so far today no ding transfer neutral warning has come up.

    Its back

    Looks like i have to pull out the electric motor the ding came back today. It all works great just send me these faults .

    Transfer ECU

    Reading the manual today found the transfer box ECU is behind the battey. I will pull the plug clean and see what happens. I also read it can be reset in file 4 on the diagnostic computer.

    I posted this a while ago for another member; it might help
    Check that the connections underneath to the transfer box are connected and " CLEAN" ! I would almost bet it's never been used till you tried, so just check the basics first.

    Try resetting the Transfer Box ECU doing the following...

    1. Turn the ignition key to the on (first) (not start) position.
    2. Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
    3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
    4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

    This clear the Potentiometer settings and typically allow you to go into low range. If this works, then you need to go between low and high range 3 times. The first is from a dead stop and the second two are while moving around 8-16 kl/hr (you still need to shift into neutral and drive which moving.

    Finally found the thread I was looking for - Transfer box potentiometer dimensions for gyrogypsy

    Not where I thought it was, but looks like it hasn't progressed to anyone making any up. The only glimmer of light is the part from AC Delco - 89059276

    No one has tried it yet and I can't find the resistance specs, but it is physically about the right size and has the hex mounting, and the drive lump in about the right spot. It just needs someone to buy one and test it...

    I don't have the money to lash out on one at the moment, and have no issues as the TC has been in and out of low range hundreds of times, but would chip in a few dollars if someone wanted to buy one. If we all kicked in a few bucks, we could put this puppy to bed either way.
