Yep, mine did the same. I had it off doing some other work, I had a look at it and found the pin that runs from beneath the bi metal strip into the centre of the fan hub was seized up. I pulled the bi metal strip off, wiggles the pin out and cleaned everything up. Reassembled with a bit of copper grease and it was fine for over 12 months. It has just started playing up again.
Also, try Revving the **** out of the engine - that unstick a them sometimes too.
I'm not game enough to remove it entirely and will bite the bullet soon and buy a new one! but at 160 quid (half that for the V8 one for some reason) it's not on top of my list...
