    Rear subframe mounts

So, I have had some "wayward" handling lately, I have changed several bushes and rose joints to rectify with the only change being the squeaking noise disappearing from the rose joints.

But, after I had a think, i suspected the rear subframe mounting bushes making the car feel like it was about to tip over when turning.

This is what I found (see attached)

with a screwdriver and being parked on a slight incline to relieve some of the weight, there was a substantial amount of movement, like 15 - 20mm with little effort.

Has anyone on here had this issue and or replaced one themselves? The bushes are about $85 ea genuine thru ULR. I have seen another forum post a report on changing them, but Im wondering why so much flex or dampening is required for the subframe in the first place since the front is mounted directly to the chassis??? Could it be plausible to remove the rubber all together?
