Hi Folks,
My car is fairly high spec but in my rush did not realise that it was missing RSE.......And I have two kids.
So I shot off to ebay, where I also bought the car, and found some head rest type DVD players. Thus now fitted , thought I'd do a mini review.
They comes a pairs and I ordered the 9 inch screens. You can get 7 inch but why bother with those!
The head rests come as two complete separate units thus you get two of everything. They can also be plumbed into the cars entertainment system and come with all the fittings but I just wanted to use the DVD function.
Equipment is the head rest/remote/wiring loom/IR Head set/Games.
3 colours available, Black/Beige/Grey. My car is Beige and in my haste I ordered black!! However all was not lost as I'll point out in a bit.
Wiring up to power is easy and once the head rests were in, I ran the loom inside the seat cover and the fused power cord, to the two power points in the rear of the centre consol. The kick plate just unclips so I soldered one unit to each of the power points. Easy and simple.
There are some simple control buttons on the unit itself but nearly all the functions and adjustments must be done from the remote. This includes sound source/pal/colour/brightness etc etc.
I keep one remote as a spare as the one unit can be used on both screens.
The units play discs of all varieties except blue ray. You can also load by flash drive and SD card. Brilliant!
Sound is by either IR head phones, pictured above, or FM transmitter or just by the in build speakers. There is NO jack for mobile phone type earphones although I did notice a more pricy model did have them.
There are two infer red channels, A and B. The headphone can be switched between either as can the units. You can watch the same movie/program or watch independently.
They act just like a normal DVD, resume function/Zoom/angle etc. I'm very pleased with them and their simplicity.
I mistakenly got black ones which I thought would look stupid, but my wife gave them the big thumbs up.....they match with the black RR Carpet mats and the black leather dash!! And they do look good. There you go, full of suprises.
Quality appears to be good, I was worried as they are China made but they conform to UK/European standards and it shows.
Lastly and usefully in the tropics, they have a zip up cover to hide/protect the screen, and to add the picture quality, clarity is excellent. They are multi regional so my Australian/UK and ummmmmmmmm Ugandan DVD's all work!
Cheers, Jerry
Nice review.
With my kids now grown up, my idea of rear seat entertainment is a little different now.
