    L322 Bullbar

    Greetings all.
I am thinking of buying an L322 and have been checking out accessories that are available new and used.
I can't for the life of me find a picture of an L322 with a proper bullbar fitted. I have found pics with the genuine soft bar but I would be wanting to fit a steel bullbar.
    Has anyone seen one?
This is stopping me from selling the D2's and getting one.
    Does anyone have any pics?
    Thanks
    Todd

Think it will be hard to find an L322 with a steel/alloy bullbar.
Most of them have the soft bar if fitted.
There's some who have modified the bullbar from the D3 so it will fit,but I dont think its an approved bar by the authorities.

Hi Todd, as mentioned, D3 bar can be modified fairly easily to fit, but that's not technically legal if that sort of thing bothers you. To me, this is just the same as running 33's or 35's on a Disco or RRC without engineering - just as illegal but most are happy to just do it. There is currently no approved steel or alloy bar available for these, only the soft factory nudge bars. Chaybra has been doing some research and ringing around to see if anyone is interested in making one, but I don't think anything has come of that yet.

Here's what the modified D3 bar looks like - http://www.aulro.com/afvb/1342350-post1.html

Here's the thread on bar development - L322 Bullbar development! Finally

Hmm. So at least it can be done. I was looking at repowering a P38 with a diesel but figured it would be easier to just buy an L322.

    Time for more homework.
    Thanks gents.

Just remember the transmission on an L322 is made of a substance similar to warm butter, so factor in some dollars for this if you want to go 'fully sick' on one.

The 5L50E conversion has been done, I've done a lot of research on fitting a manual, but not got a definitive answer there, although with time and money I think it is doable.

Is the trans really that bad?
I thought the issues were due to poor maintenance?

Try and find one that was serviced in the first 3 years - they were classified as 'sealed for life' so nothing was done for at least 100,000KM on any of them. Add to that the M57 Diesel engines torque - even in its least powerful form as fitted to the L322 still makes more torque than the transmission is speced to handle. The 5L40E is a bucket of **** and has design flaws that can't be engineered out. If you buy a car with a rebuilt transmission and good servicing from there, maybe you will get a decent run, but flogging one or towing heavy loads will cause another failure at some point.

If you buy one that hasn't had a transmission rebuild, then allow around $7K to get it done when (not if) it fails.

Sorry for the bad news, I love these cars and still enjoy driving mine every time I get in it, but you need to be aware of its flaws before you jump in.

The V8 has a slightly better transmission, but it too suffers issues.

It's a real pity and the biggest flaw of these vehicles by far. They are superb off road, and would make a killer 'bush pig' with a few mods. Even mine with 20" road tyres is impressive off road - you just need to tip toe around a bit, but it is really easy off roading.

I think I'm going to get a P38 and repower it with a diesel. I would always be worried about the box in the 322 by the sounds of it.
Shame, they look great and appear to have everything I want.
    Can't fit another box, like a 6L80E?

Not sure, maybe others know. The L322 is a solid vehicle apart from that, the P38... Well, will present you other challenges...
