Thread: Random Alarms

Last week I fitted drawers and a fridge to the L322 so I could go camping last weekend.

Testing ran the battery down to the point where the car wouldn't start so I put it on charge for a few hours and got it going.

Then I swapped the fridge over to mains power.

About 12:30am the car alarm went off. At first I didn't know what it was because it's never happened before. Then I looked out the window. So I went out and unlocked/relocked the car and came back inside. Shortly after, it happened again. So I just just unlocked it - assuming it was something to do with the low battery.

Friday morning, I hopped into the car to go camping - dead battery. It seemed I was right about the alarm.

Friday evening, I was all set up at the campsite about 140km away so the battery was charged. The fridge was running on mains so I new it wouldn't flatten the battery. So I went for a swim. Five minutes later the alarm went off. Gaahhh! I unlocked the car and left it unlocked.

I thought this is going to be a real problem when travelling and parked in the street.

The next day I went through the Owner's Manual and read about the alarm. Then it dawned on me. It was the fridge even though it was running on mains. When the fridge switched on, it's fans would also come on. That movement of air in the car set off the interior space protection.

Fortunately, the protection can be disabled by pressing the lock button twice. I did that and had no further alarms.

I have had the alarm going off from moths inside the car. I have also disconnected my bonnet switch as that is a common problem.

The bonnet switch was activating the alarm in my L322. I bought a new switch. Then I discovered the plastic bracket holding the button switch was cracked. The switch was ok. The bracket allowed enough movement trigger the switch. I will fix it one day. For now I just pulled the plug on the switch.
