    Steering Column

    G`day ,

    as i understand .

HSE and Vogue with memory seats also have memory steering column .

SE won`t normally have memory seats .

My question is are the SE columns only manual adjust or will they still move with the key ?

Can the memory function be disabled or is it seen as an important function ?

The answer to the first question is ...

If the car doesn`t have memory seats the column adjustment is via the control switch which is manual .

If the car has memory seats the column adjustment is automatic via the seat ecu and the matching key .

Can anyone answer the second question ?

Extra part , if the column memory can be disabled does that also disable the seat memory ?

I have disabled the auto column adjust on my MY12 but the memory function of the seat remains. However these features may have changed over the years so might not be applicable to earlier vehicles.

The first part is accurate as mentioned previously. That is, the SE is adjusted manually, and the HSE and Vogue remember the settings of the steering column, seat and mirrors according to the key inserted. Moving into place as the key is used, and out of the way when removed.

Yes, this feature can be disabled. You need something like a VCS, Autologic, IIDTool or BBS system to do so. Other devices may have the ability but I am unaware of that functionality on them. Certainly my HawkEye doesn't have the ability, but then unlike most of the above its not VIN locked.

A friend has this function disabled on his 03MY HSE to avoid excessive use of the column adjustment motors.

    Hope that helps some.

    Cheers,
    Iain

Yes thanks , very helpful .

Do you or anyone else know anything about RSW All Comms , i don`t think it is vin locked .

I feel an obligation because i have made use of his free EAS software .

It says All Comm can read and clear the seat module .

Would the disable for the column be at the Seat ECU or would the Body Control Module tell the seat ECU how to act ?

It doesn`t say what and i haven`t had a good look at the demo but it does say it can customise the body module .

    G'day Peter,

I don't know much about the capabilities of the All Comms these days, though Storey's write up does suggest that it can communicate with the Body Control Module and modify aspects of the Car Configuration File. I understand the entry functions (which are what you need to activate/deactivate to change the behaviour of the column) are part of the CCF and thus part of the BCM.

My understanding is that the BCM communicates with the other modules, such as the seat control module, as necessary to activate the various memory settings.

Possibly worth shooting RSW Solutions an email and asking the question about the entry functions in the CCF.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Iain ,

earlier i did a quick search and one UK site came up with from april 2013 .

Can be used to set parking sensor volume and change steering wheel and seat movement options . ( exert )

Only works on the BMW ones but the demo tells it now also does the diesel , though i think it still only works for the ZF .

The infomation on RSW site says customise Vehicle entry function .

Your Email suggestion is the best one though .

Again thanks , the more i learn the less i worry and we don`t have one as yet .
