    Love that 1st pic Jerry.

How the EGR works on the tdv8 - here's a novice understanding. Exhaust flows up from the left and right turbo to their respective EGR. The EGR has a exhaust cooler to reduce the exhaust temperature which receives coolant to assist the process. Paul posted some good pics a while back of where the exhaust flows through. The EGR opens at start up to assist with warming up the motor and at various other times which I don't understand. Exhaust gets let into the manifold at the top of the motor and combine with clean air from the turbo via the intercooler.

The clean air includes oil vapour. The crank case pressure is released by a vent to the cran case ventilation (CCV) filter located at the top of the motor behind the oil filter. This is supposed to filter out most of the oil and return it to the sump. The filtered vent air is then sent south to the turbo intake. It joins air from the air filter and enters the turbo. The turbo being quite hot should deal with this oil vapour. However it does coat the turbo vanes and the inside of the intercooler.

That's why Harlie was suggesting a secondary ccv filter like a Provent might be a good idea.

Anyway this oil vapour and air go through the turbo and intercooler and into the upper manifold where it combines with exhaust soot and coats the inside of each bank manifold and most goes in the motor. In theory the EGR exhaust gets burnt a second time and produces less pollution.

I hope that makes sense and helps.

    Sorry for hack Jerry.

That's the only explanation I have, but it's a big difference and so a lot of unburnt fuel. In effect the EGR consequences seem to negate any benefits.

I gave it some serious right foot off the mark today with very little black smoke.

I use stuff once a year called Revive. It's a water soluble spray treatment injected post air filter. I think it does more to help clean the cool side of the turbo, intercooler and maybe top manifold than do anything to the EGR.

    Hi Pete,

Thanks for the outline, very good of you. I now have 100 more questions but will find time and surf the net.
Where does one buy Revive from? I'll be in Brissie late next month and will get some. If water based, then I can take it on the plane.

    Cheers Jerry

No worries Jerry. I hope it made sense. I think you once asked about a silver pipe on the driver's side going forward, that sits above the turbo. That's the pipe from the CCV filter. The CCV filter only supplies oil vapour air to the driver side turbo.

Here's the link for the Australian distributor. https://reviveturbocleaner.com/

Sorry that's the main distributor in the UK. You might do better from RSA.

Yes I did, a lose hose problem.

Thanks for the details, I'll keep a look out for it

The EAS system is what has my attention at the moment as well.

    Cheers Jerry
