I'd be very interested in what you do and what unit you install, Roverlord.

The standard set up in my 2007 is virtually useless because of where I live so anything that will make it more meaningful...........

Dash is easy to remove - follow the videos and you won't break anything. If you don't already, get yourself a good torx set - everything uses torx screws - you become used to it and after working on mine I think I prefer them now.

I haven't heard of it done on the facelift models Jerry. But there should be some way to do it. I agree the radio reception is hopeless and interface dated. It would be fairly easy for JLR to update it if they had a will.

Jerry, this is the unit I ended up purchasing . Why, as it has everything That I need that's simple. I just want GPS and reverse camera, and phone. DVD.
It's dearer than other units on offer. There are others that have functions like key pads on screen for word and google internet etc etc, I don't need this as I don't play whilst driving.
Interestingly the seller has a buy it now and a best offer on their listing. I didn't have time to muck around so I messaged them and asked what their best price was they would accept. I got a reply saying 12GBP off.
I then found the same unit on ebay under a different seller ID which included free express international delivery in the price and it was cheaper than the best offer price the Ist seller offered. I read through the second seller's add and found it was the same company as the 1st seller, same address and contact name details.
I emailed the 1st seller about this but they didn't respond. So I made an offer on the second seller ad, and got an email the next day that it was accepted. So with free express international delivery I save $64 on the original prices.

Interestingly the purchase info emailed to me came from the USMATES.so it is the same supply.

There are other units I looked at but I never got a reply from sellers on there web site after 3 days waiting I gave up
I saw this was installed on a post of the fullfatrr.com forum
This is about $350 delivered to AUS on special.
Has more features and bling, but stuff I wouldn't use.
but it lets you adjust the colour palette for the display which is a good feature.
I don't need internet and don't want dongles etc.
But this is a good buy I think if you want those things.

My new head unit arrived today, it only spent 1 day in customs and delivered the next day. Now where did I put that torx kit I purchased last week?

Almost completed the install.
Every thing was plug and play, got all my steering wheel controls including the phone button operational.
Took a whole 20 mins to remove the dash pad, side panels and remove the head unit carrier box.

Fun began with the carrier box which needed some serious modification. It wasn't just a simple cut off a lip like on some Youtube videos tutorials.

I needed to cut the inside panels of the carrier to get the unit to side down into the dash correctly so the dash pad could be fitted correctly. this took quite a bit of time to get it right. Lucky land rover/BMW used thick ABS type plastic for the carrier and not the usual run of the mill thin brittle plastic like on a lot of cars.

Then there was no where to fix the new head unit inside the carrier.
So I used dobs of sikaflex automotive , to hold it in place, this will give shock absorbing as well to the unit. To remove would mean a hacksaw through the sikaflex blobs.
The user manual that came with the unit is typical Chinese broken english = useless. I can't work

]out how to enter my phones address book to it.

I still need to finish the job by wiring in the 2 reverse cameras, and then it will be complete.

Great job. A huge improvement.

I've also been quite impressed by the quality of most components. The L322 design seems to be quite well thought out. It comes apart quite easily.

Great job, couple of questions:

Can a novice do it? Im okay with spanners but no expert:
How long did it take you?
Did it just plug into the existing wiring loom with no mods inclusive of remote controls on wheel still working?
