    No traction control in reverse

Multiple times today I found that traction control did not activate in reverse regardless of TR setting and regardless of throttle, which I find ludicrous. 1 front and 1 rear were spinning each time so I assume that the centre diff was locking although I didn't look at the instrument display. ABS worked when the brakes were touched but stopped as soon as the pedal was released.

Has anyone else discovered this and does it also apply to Discos? BTW, it's a MY12.

No one seems to know the answer from either forum.

I might give it a go in the D4 over the weekend by putting car ramps under diagonal wheels and reversing up. It does it easily when going forwards but it will be a good test in reverse.

I might give that a got tomorrow too, otherwise I would have to go find a slippery hill to reverse up!

Your D4 having an e-diff is unlikely to prove the condition, likewise for Bob's.

My 300mm high ramps do not provide enough height to lose traction it seems - all 4 wheels still had weight on them.

Mine still has a tiny bit of weight on all four wheels as well but usually not enough to get the car up the ramps without traction control. However, as Graeme says, the rear diff may still activate and not prove anything.

So much for D4 independent suspension not having articulation according to the Defender drivers.

I should have taken a photo for them with it crossed up with all 4 tyres still firmly planted

Yes, I've done it a few times in the D4. My son's D1 with 50mm lift is not quite as good as the D4 at keeping all four wheels on the ground and without traction control can't get to the top of the ramps.
