    Engine Codes

    Hi Folks,

The car has been sitting for a week as I'd been away thus jumped in it the other day and whizzed off down the road. At the end of the journey I suddenly got a bong and restricted engine signal.

Quite shocked as I have sort of got confident with the car!!

    Any way:

P0101 Mass air flow sensor issue
P123A &P123B Barometric pressure re turbos or actuator
    P007F Intercooler
PO23D Manifold Absolute Pressure - Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor A Correlation
    P2071 Intake manifold stuck shut.

Cleared everything and all okay for a while then bong and again some or a combination of those codes have come up again, twice.

On research it seems it could be many things but the common thread is vacuum leak/split hose or sticky actuator or carbon build up.

My car does not blow smoke and battery is good.

Visual inspection of the top hose looks okay but will take them off. I am beginning to think the city driving/lack of a long trip is taking its toll but any other thoughts gratefully received.

    Cheers, Jerry

also check for suction leak between the turbo and the MAF.
If the filter is starting to be clogged, it can pull air thru a damaged gasket/seal/hose.
You can also get some MAF cleaner (or contact cleaner...not brake cleaner) and give it a good spray.
carbon build up shouldnt yeild a warning message, just reduced performance. (same as boost leak)

It could be a vacuum leak or break in the vacuum circuit controlling the turbo actuator. Mine was a broken T piece on top of the engine under the cover.

    So...............

A split top hose. So thankful it was that and nothing bigger... I hope, have not test driven it yet with the temp fix of Duck Tape.

I have decided to go Silicon, skyped a company in the UK who have a set and as I'm heading that way in a couple of weeks will pick it up there.

Will advise how duck tape does after road test.

Pete, thanks and will log that for next time in a decent Auto shop!

I cant even get Duck Tape here, so have got Bitumen tape with Aluminium coating to act as a heat shield!!

    It works. No engine codes.

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

    Just to complete this thread:

Old hose with duct tape fix. I did about 800klms like this with no issues:

I purchased the silicon set which don't fit exactly, they needed trimming:

I also got the special jubilee clips that go with them. One word or warning, the secondary internal sleave on these are razor sharp. Obviously to get a purchase on the silicon I assume.

DucT tape. Because it is designed for use on AC ducts.
