    Rear Subframe Bushes

    Hey all,

Has anyone gone down the path of changing out the rear subframe bushes?

From my research, they look extreamly similar to the BMW E53 x5 ones (and other bmw) and there are plenty of tools on ebay for $100 or so.

has anyone already got the tools etc?

I did all the suspension bushes in the arse end of mine, which ones are you talking about? There's 3 different ones. I purchased all of them (good quality Lemforder ones, not the cheaper ones) for around $350 for the lot, but I know I got a great deal on them and could have nearly doubled my money had I on sold them on eBay.

No special tooling required (I never bothered to look, I just ripped the arse out of the car out and did them), but you'll need a good press - I almost maxed out a 50 tonner doing a couple of them - and an assortment of pipe offcuts and large sockets.

One of the hardest things was getting the drive shaft out of the hub when disassembling everything - I also replaced the wheel bearings at the same time as they a bit rumbly - they were cheap enough as they were a common size and I think they're the same as the fronts as well.

Oh, and the rear driveshafts are identical, so swapping them side to side so they run in the other direction was also something I did, but the CV's seemed fine anyway.
