At the risk of being accused of heresy...
My brother and I swapped cars for a few days, he took my L322 and towed the big camper trailer to Kalbarri, and I took his HSE D4.
(Whispering) - I was pretty impressed. Suspension seems firmer, driving position more upright (and a bit higher), a bit narrower in the cabin and the dash is closer (like my old RRS). And of course, it hasn't the grunt of my 4.4 TDV8. But the seats are just as comfy, the back seats fold flat, and that load space is just cavernous.
If I were to move the L322 on in a year or two, would I be silly to replace it with a late model D4? It certainly feels like it'd be a fine overland tow tug and cruiser. And on corrugations, with 18 inch wheels, I'd be a lot happier.
Has anyone else gone from L322 to D4 or the other way?

Won't be for a while yet Michael, I still love getting in it every morningmaybe in 12 months?
I was getting keen on replacing my D4 V8 with a 2012 L322. I went and looked at some and while the 4.4 TDV8 and the 8 speed are great, I wasn't so happy with the interior layout and much prefer the D4s practicality.
For the moment I've decided that the D4 is still the best fit for my requirements and I'll be keeping it. In my opinion there is nothing else on the market that comes close to it's versatility and feature list.

I replaced an early D4 fitted with new 2012 shocks with a 2012 L322 for the L322's CVD shocks, wanting a more supple suspension for my wife's injured back and fortunately the CVDs do a great job. The L322's cabin feels more airy but looses out in cargo space and storage pockets. The D4's separate chassis isolates the cabin better from hard suspension knocks although both vehicles are improved with a small lift.

What colour interior Graeme? The ones I looked at were black and I find it makes them feel closed in compared to the almond of my D4.

I didn't want black interior. I didn't want black exterior either but ended-up with a colour that looks black unless very clean when it doesn't look quite black enough for black.

I have seen the future and it is Discovery 5!
At least the D5 should continue the D3/D4's tradition of a reasonably clean rear with its 4 air deflectors in the top of the rear spoiler.
