    New Key and Module

My car only came with one key. I don't like carrying the risk of not having a spare, so bought a second one.

Interestingly the dealer had to replace the onboard key module under warranty before they could pair the new key, as to prevent thefts etc Land Rover had updated the design of the module. Without replacing the module, had they attempted to pair the new key to the module in situ from the factory, it would have apparently rendered all keys unusable (or something like that!)

That's what happens when you lose a key. However, Jorden Rovertech, an indie mechanic in WA, have purchase a new type of diagnostic computer that can now do the job without replacing the module to save money. They did mine when a key was stolen earlier this year.

The nearby dealer is now using them to reprogram keys so that the new module is not required, which saves time and money for their clients.
