2004 bluetooth options

Hi there, I,m Dean and this is my first post with AULRO.

I have a 2004 Vogue which is my 3rd RR. Not a noob to using forums so have looked through earlier posts, before posting this.

My last RR was a 2002 RR Vogue and as with the later one I would like to be able to use the hands free with mobile calls. Naturally would prefer to use existing buttons in the car but will have to retrofit something else if this is not possible.

I have been searching online and have not found a cost effective solution yet.
Can you more knowledgable AULRO guys offer any more current advice, as most posts regarding this sort of this is mostly 3 to 6 years old and technology keeps moving forward.

My 2002 has a Parrot bluetooth hands free phone unit. It mutes the radio when phone is in use, and Parrot unit provides access to the phone directory, although sorted by first names! Mic mounted A pillar at roof, speaker up under dash, passenger side, and unit is mounted between console and steering column, on the available flat dash in front of indicator stalk, facing driver.

Thanks Michael, I have used parrot HF with other vehicles so am aware of this as a last resort option.

What I am trying to do is...

Hi Dino,

Is your 2004 a MY05 ? Basically the start of when Ford took over. Do you have the newer touch screen. If yes to the above you might already have Bluetooth and just need to upgrade it.

It's not cheap but it's fully integrated. Unfortunately for me I dont have the correct module to update so it will be a bit more expensive for me.

Thanks Darren, Mines a mid 04 build, non-ford.
I've seen all the things Michael is pointing at, as this is what comes up on any basic google search, which is why I'm looking for current alternatives.

I'd looked at this too (bluetoothexchange) but its not clear if when fitted, the later Bluetooth module if it would work with the earlier BMW system anyway.

Again most of these date from 4-6 years ago, so I am thinking there maybe something more current as a solution as technology moves pretty quick these days.

I am hoping someone will respond that has successfully used a later BMW component / module or conversion that will work with the older BMW system.

I haven't yet fitted the BMW ULF Bluetooth to my 2004 yet. At the moment I'm still using the in-car phone to which I forward my iPhone. It's 2G (GSM) and I have a long expiry Vodaphone pre-paid SIM in the cradle (just use a full-size SIM).

Come September, I'll have to fit the Bluetooth as the 2G network will be closed (Telstra has already closed their 2G network).
