Soon to be first time owner!

    Hi All,

I'm currently in the market for my first RR, an L322 preferably Vogue. Was initially looking at a few Range Rover Sports, but the Vogue seems so much nicer and I could do with the extra room as well! Looking to keep the car for a while, so hoping to find something with lowish kms (around the 150k mark) and most likely petrol as the budget is $20k.

Given the very limited choices I have in Sydney, I have stumbled upon this car in Victoria and was hoping to get some of your expert opinions.
    We've taken a wrong turn

I have spoken to the owner and confirmed it's a 2003, not 2005 model and the front end and taillights have been updated to the facelift version. Transmission recently serviced and the owner states it's in fairly good condition. Not sure about the 22's though.

Spoke to Fred Smith (he's raved on about io this forum) about possibly doing an inspection on this car and he said it's only worth 13-14k. The low kms aren't that important and it's only worth that kind of money if it were a TD. He also said the facelift does nothing for it and if anything, may devalue the car as it is not original.

However, what has drawn me to this car is the facelift. To me, it's refreshing and gives the car a much newer look. The owner also confirmed that only genuine parts were used, and I know this could have easily cost thousands of dollars to do.

Looking forward to your thoughts! Cheers

This would bother me - "Roadworthy/Safety Certificate - No".....enough to cause me to keep looking plus it has been fiddled with. To me no RWC indicates that perhaps it is not so well looked after.

Is it common/usual for a car in VIC to have a RWC? I know it's a little stricter down there. In NSW it is very uncommon that a car comes with a RWC. Either way, I would still get a pre-purchase inspection carried out, but just wanted to get some opinions before forking out a couple hunded.

Its a nice looking car and fairly low km. But I would aim for as young as budget allows over a facelift update of an older model. You simply get better reliability.

Since its "been Update" I would like to check the Vin number which isn't listed, to see if it is an actual Vogue and not a HSE that has had a Vogue badge put on it by previous owner.

RWC it says no, that worries me as you must have a rwc certificate to transfer registrationin VICTORIA , if no RWC then the plates have to be handed in and buyer requires to purchase permit to drive it home. This might be a typo in the listing. It probably means no statuary warranty supplied as the car is no too old to legally be provided with one by dealer .

If no RWC proves to be correct then make a Roadworthy check part of your inspection requirements.
It will not cost you a fortune but may save you one.

Yes definitely,, as a failed windscreen would add mega $ to the price, i think they are up to $2k to replace with the speced ones. heated and rain sensored.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I had the car checked out this morning at Rova Range and they found that it was indeed not a Vogue, but a HSE.
    Other faults include:
    • Aftermarket head unit playing up - need replacement.
    • Windscreen washer bottle broken/cracked (owner has a new one to be fitted).
    • Center dash vent louver broken.
    • Rocker cover slight leak.
    • Number plate lens missing.
    • Rear door trims missing Land Rover trims.
    • Front seat rear pockets damaged.
    • Oil filter mounts broken.

    Good points:
    • Transmission serviced and running well.
    • Motor and other mechanicals in good order.
    • Tyres almost new.
    • Air suspension good.
    • Exterior and interior condition good overall.

For the age of the car the issues were quite minor to me, so I called the owner and negotiated a few grand off the price based on the above. Just put down a deposit and picking it up Sunday
