There is a replacement part for the sensor plug itself - it is a plastic plug with 3 wires that needs to be soldered into the harness after the old is cut off. It is available as a genuine part and aftermarket so there must have been a few issues - I've not heard of the problems myself.....

Only reason I know about the part is I built a DIY electronic air suspension system for my home made caravan - using an Arduino as the ECU. L322 height sensors were the cheapest height sensor I could find at about $25 each. Then I stumbled across the plug as a tail, ranging from 14 to 60 quid in the UK, or $20 for 5 out of china 
sorry, bit side tracked - point is, there must have been issues with the harness side of the plug. I should have a spare (5th one) laying around....

Ok fixed most of my problems. I found today that a low battery can cause the steering angle sensor to need a reset. If the steering angle sensor is not reset immediately after the low voltage then the can bus triggers the below faults.
ABS-Brake Module
Hill descent fault
• 0x5A Temporary system deactivation
• 0x68 Steering angle sensor ECU internal fault
EAS-Suspension
• 0x32 CAN bus Fault
IP-Instrument Pack
• 0xBD EBV function fault received from ABS ECU
LCM-Light Control v11
• 0xC ECU EEPROM fault
• 0x57 Air suspension active/inactive
SASM-Steering Angle
• 0x4 Steering angle sensor fault during normal operation
you may get one, some or all of these faults due to the affected systems needing the can bus readings from the steering angle sensor.
I have replaced the battery and reset the steering angle sensor using these steps.
