    Td6 Gear Selector question

    Hi again,

im still going mad trying to solve a gearbox error in my TD6. I'm not sure if this is related, but I've noticed an intermittent fault with the gear selector lever. When I'm driving, I can shift between D, N and R without a foot on the brake or pressing the gear lever selector button. The lights on the dash show it changing. Occasionally I can get it to operate normally, ie, it won't let me go into reverse without a foot on the brake and it feels like there's an electrical solenoid that opens/closes to control this. Does anyone know how this bit works or what controls this? Ie inhibitor switch?
    thanks!

I had a look on UK site FFRR a chap talks about a pin that engages and retracts locking the lever , via a solenoid.

Quote] You should be able to feel a quiet thunk when you press the brake (through your hand if it's on the gear lever). It makes a small pin pop out allowing the gear leaver to move and you can hear/ feel it in the lever. It's there so you can't put it in gear without your foot on the brake. You can see the pin if you pull the gear leaver surround up

reply: pulled off the gear gaiter and observed the solenoid , the pin doesn't release when pushing brake pedal and trying to change from park , the pin does detract once the car is switched off , so it is going in and out .

Going to leave the battery disconnected overnight in the hope the cars ecu's will go to sleep and wake up and work properly in the morning - if that doesn't work I may have to try and remove the solenoid to get mobile again.

    Ok...thanks for the quick response.
i popped off the selector boot and can see the solenoid/pin you're talking about and sure enough it wasn't moving. I could feel it electrically working when I put my foot on and off the brake in neutral, so after a bit of lubricant, it's now working as it should.
unfortunately I'm guessing it's not related to my error code 😡.

What error code are you getting?
When disconnecting the battery, if you join the earth and positive leads together after they are removed from the battery and leave them for 10 mins it can remove any residual energy still left in ECUs. Reconnect the leads, your system info like fuel consumption etc with recalibrate themselves again, but it some times can fix stubborn problems.

    Thanks Roverlord,
ive been getting a message "pressure line solenoid 4 fault" with trans going into failsafe. I get it about 30secs after driving it for the first time each day. When I clear the message, it doesn't come back for the rest of the day.
ive also ended up with another couple of messages...
    "Transmission interface bus fault"
    "Transmission emergency program fault"

im not sure if the last two are from when I've been troubleshooting the selector the last few days because I hadn't noticed them before. Will clear them and see if they return. Will also disconnect the battery and reset ecu's.

the gearbox otherwise shifts and drives perfectly...

The Solenoids are aparantly easy to remove and install , access when the pan removed I read somewhere, and not too dear from the UK.
