BMW Mk IV DVD NAV upgrade issues.

Thanks guys, yes my screen was replaced ( with a non genuine) but the rain sensing was working for months afterwards, it just seemed to stop one day,( may have been caused when I had an issue with a dead battery) I did buy another sensor but it was second hand and didn't fix the problem. I only have the RSW software, there is a rain sensor section but it only reads/clears faults.. Guess I need to find a faultmate over here and have it recalibrated, this was a few years ago now and I hadn't bothered looking at it any further until I noted Rob's comment.

When you look at the elongated oval shape that's visible through your windscreen where the sensor sits, is the oval clear blue / purple colour or has it detached a bit from the screen.
Can you take a picture and post it up?

I removed the cover and inspected the sensor mount, there is nothing obvious obstructing the optics, from inside or out, I can communicate with both modules using RSW software and neither indicate any faults. After searching some more I think Ron is correct and I may need to get the sensor readopted/recalibrated again. Sorry But I am not able to post up any photos for some reason..

When you look at the oval shaped sensor through your windscreen, does it look like this or is it even and clear. This was mine before and it didnt work.

Not like yours, my is clear and uniform.

Okay, if the optical adhesive oval is clear, then it's probably the sensor needing calibration as Ron suggests. I got off lucky!
