    Trailer plug wiring

    Hey guys

I'm going insane with the trailer wiring on my 2004 l322 TD6. All the lights work perfect on my basic trailer without brakes. I just hired a car trailer with electric brakes. I recently had a brake controller fitted. The installer did it to spec. When I turn the lights on it engages the brakes. Anyone have sugestions why?

    Cheers

Probably because something is wired incorrectly....

my 07 has the factory tow wiring. I added a brake controller and reverse light wiring. No dramas.

the brakes are probably being applied everytime the lamp check happens ... have you got a resistor etc (like if you had led lights) on the brake light circuit?

European wiring is different to Australian wiring. There is a mod that is supposed to be done as part of dealer delivery, but is mostly not. The result is when lights are on electric brakes are applied.

If your brake lights are working correctly on your basic trailer then I would imagine that your plug is wired up correctly.
I would be looking at the hire trailers wiring with some suspicion.

We tried 3 trailers.. i should have mentioned it did the same thing last year when I didn't have a brake controller. The electric brake trailer had it's own controller. I thought getting a brake controller fitted would fix it.. Quite obvious when I turn the lights on the car tells the electric brskes to go on.
