Smacks of a sticky idle control valve. I assume that it has one.
BTW, you've posted on the wrong forum.
Edit: It doesn't appear to have an idle control valve, only the motorised butterfly in the throttle body.
Hi There,
I posted in April about the engine hunting on start-up, this is more like engine revs surging, maybe by about 500 rpm. On occasion I will start the engine, no throttle, the engine fires up beautifully, runs for about 2 to 3 seconds and dies. On the restart, engine will start and run however the revs move up and down maybe 500 rpm deviation. Drive the vehicle ( only short distances, still not licensed) up the road and back, normal operating temp engine runs fine, sweet as, no deviation on the revs.
What I have done so far, replaced lots of the small tubing on top of the engine with silicon tubing, new plugs, replaced the R/C gaskets (they were leaking nothing to do with the revs issue) and the air filter. I've done other service stuff like changing oil and oil filter, fuel filter etc. Still no joy. Any assistance or ideas what to try next. The engine light is not on. My next port of call was going to be the MAF sensor, would this part cause problems like this
4.4 petrol BMW motor, 202,000 klms on the clock, year is 2003.
Any assistance greatly received, thanks in anticipation.
Cheers Marty

Hi Graeme,
Thanks for the info, I'll check the throttle body and give it a bit of a clean, see if that makes any difference, you never know., it has got to be something relatively simple............ surely.
BTW I thought this was the L322 FFRR forum, I'm not talking about my L320 RRS here, this is my project vehicle (Fireball).
Sorry, you don't have a L322 listed amongst your vehicles so I assumed you meant L320.
Is there any difference if the coolant temperature sensor is unplugged? The sensor might not be indicating that the engine is cold.

Hi Graeme,
Something to check, thank you. I've modified my signature, good point
I was messing around with the steering column at the weekend that has now escalated into more of an issue right now. Subject of another post.........
