No TdV6's in the L322 but available in the Sports as you mentioned. The L322 also had the bullet proof BMW Td6 engine; unfortunately it was seriously let down by the selection of the GM 5L40E gearbox.

The timing chain usually starts with a noticeable rattle especially on start-up. Sometimes pieces of plastic have been found at a oil change, an indication imminent failure of the guides. Gussy a member on here has just done this repair, so a read of his post would be a good starting point. Without knowing a rough purchase price and your intended use it's a bit hard to suggest things specifically.

You would not consider a 3.6 TdV8 ? Some great prices to be had if you shop carefully.

A good summary Laurie. The 4.4 BMW
v8 sounds like it was a good motor for
It’s time, but is now long in the tooth.

The 4.4 Jag NA and 4.2 SC v8 petrols are both probably the most reliable petrol motors in a L322. The tdv8 4.4 and 3.6 are also economical, very torquy and reliable diesels, just more complicated than the petrols.

Thanks guys, that’s great advice. I am looking for a project car in the low teens here in WA - daily driver is a Toyota and the garage queen is a cayenne. So this is something to keep me busy with the spanners as my p38 is pretty much sorted. May have to stalk for a bit and let the 6 speed prices come down a little. Thanks again!

The 6hp26 is a revolution not a evolution in design. Used in vehicles from a Bentley to a Falcon. They are worth the wait.

    The link currently shows 2 MY10 3.6, not MY11 4.4/8-speed/CVDs

My MY12 AB is insured for a little more than your today's example.

The original advertised 2011 Autobiography was gone in 3 days !!! maybe the site just defaults to Autobiography It was a very nice car, apart from being Black on Black , I was nearly tempted ,just can't do the black interior.

When I was looking I made an appointment with a dealer's salesman to have a look at a white with black interior to see if I could bear the black interior. The salesman knew it was a 5-hour drive for me but sent a text when I was 1 hour away advising that he had just sold the car. I didn't try to look at black interiors after that episode.

This is just down the road from me, its been on their website for a few weeks - pre-xmas - but has only now just been moved over to Carsales.

They had a limited edition Black edition (15 in Aus?) before Xmas too, and I think they said it was sold unseen, or at least in a day or so at the very high end of L322 prices like this one!
