Stuck bonnet release, can not open bonnet

Hi Folks, does anybody know how to open the bonnet on an L322 TDV8.

I dove off with the bonnet open, not on the safety latch, and as I got up speed the bonnet opened with a jar.

The is no damage other than one of the struts is broken and the very corners of the bonnet, under the windscreen at each door, is slightly bent.

I shut the bonnet at the time, drove home and opened it to see what damage was done.

I shut the bonnet OK but now the passenger side completely releases but the drivers side only comes up about 10mm and thats as far as it will go.

I can reach the safety latch and release it but the driver’s side will not budge.

    Any suggestions?

Argh, sorry to hear it, I feel your pain. Went out and had a look at mine for you, there's no obvious way to get to the latch without removing the grille, and you need the bonnet open to do that. There's a hole in the bucket etc. I assume you've tried pushing down on the bonnet to release it while someone else maintains tension on the cable?

    Thanks very much Stranger.

I have tried continually to lock then release the the bonnet locks, but as above, only the passenger side is releasing properly.

I suspect the bonnet may be a bit out of alinement, and the locking device can not clear the hole.

    I will try again tomorrow.

    Again, thanks for your assistance.

Alignment definitely sounds like the problem. Perhaps a trip to a panel shop is in order, they'll have plenty of experience with this sort of thing. I assume you'll want the bonnet straightened out anyway...
Happy to be of what little help I could, you've been very helpful with my battery isolator in the past. It's running perfectly now, great unit.

I assume you’re tried opening it with 2 people, check the gap around the bonnet it might indicate which way to push it.

    Hi Whitey and thanks.

Have tried that but one side is out of plumb and just won’t release.

I need to get it to a panel beater and see what can be done.

It looks like I have done about two grands worth do damage.

And all while trying to do the right thing.

We are plagued with bush turkeys and I was told to catch them and take them for a drive of at least 5kms and they will not come back.

Well because I have not been driving the RR, the cranking battery is stuffed.

So After catching one of the turkeys, I opened the bonnet and charged the battery enough to get the motor started. As the RR was facing a wall in the workshop and could not shut the bonnet properly, I lowered it and backed out.

I didn’t want the turkey to be caged any longer than necessary so I put it in the back and forgot to close the bonnet properly.

While this time the problem was of my own doing, I’m afraid this is the last straw and I am now going to sell the RR as is.

    Enough is enough.

Gday Tim. Sorry hear about this latest episode.

I don’t know if it helps but the catch on the receiver for each of the pins is on the driver side.

If you gave the bonnet some downward and passenger direction pressure while someone pulled the latch, you might be lucky.

Hi mate and thanks for the photos.

I have one of those snake cameras and I can see the lock pin/bolt, but I can not see what it is caught on.

I am pretty well sure I will need to get it to a panel beaters to see if they can get it opened.

And once I have it opened, I am sell the RR as is.

If you know anyone looking for one, doesn’t mind getting a new bonnet ( around $2k with painting ) this one is going cheap.

Yes, but if I start up with an axe, I won't stop at the bonnet.
