First post! L322 suspension refresh - odd noise

Hi all, recent purchaser of an 04 Vogue L322 and bought her with a knocking front end.

I've just replaced both struts with remanufactured units and have the rest of the usual suspects on order.

Took her for a drive today and everything was fine for about 30 min of driving, when i started to hear a constant knocking when off the gas (coasting), 'knock-knock-knock'. Get into the gas and it goes away, brake and it goes away. The duration between knocks is road speed dependent.

Got home, pulled the wheel off and checked all the bolts, checked my torque values and everything seems to be up to standard.

Anyone have an idea of what might have caused this, it wasn't there before, so i must have introduced it into the system somehow!

I have the old shock there i could pop it back on to test, but prefer to see if anyone has any ideas

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.

I'd guess if you've done the struts then the control arm rubbers would be my next suspect. Even with the low KM your vehicle has done, it isn't young and more and they hay have hardened. A decent pry bar and some investigation should be able to confirm or rule this out.

    Will post some piccies soon!

I have new upper & lower arms + knuckle ball joints on order, i threw some new ARB links in when I changed the struts over.

The rearward control arm looks to have SuperPro bushes so I'm going to have a crack at the knuckle ball joints first. No use wasting good milage on parts that don't need replacing.

Going over everything again on both sides tomorrow to make sure I've not made a mistake. Im guessing I've mixed up some nm ft/lb settings somewhere.

Start small then start looking at other drivetrain elements.

    Thanks

Mine had a bit of a rattle from what sounded like down near the RH front wheel this morning. I wondered if the wheel nuts were loose after balancing the front wheels last week but the culprit was a torch rattling in my door pocket. For any front-end rattle the wheel nuts are the first item that I check, after experiences from years ago.

In your original message you said you went home , took wheel off and checked torque values. Thats when I eliminated wheel nuts.

I sure did, on the left hand wheel, not the right hand..

New (remanufactured) LH airbag just failed too, looks like the bearing has died completely corrupting the seal and deflating the bellow. The delivery driver with the rest of my parts came and went while I was home today as well.. Thanks Toll...

A roverless Xmas! Time for a beer haha
