Congratulations. I have just recently became engaged to an 07 TDV8 Luxury, 3.6. An absolutely amazing machine. Like you I bargained the price down to a point where I have a margin for repairs as required. You will love it.
Yeah I did.
I thought about it (a lot) more and while the latest service is well overdue, it’s only been 10 months since the previous service and they were actually quite regular with servicing. Plus really, they were only maintenance items that needed doing. The indie noted this as well. The vehicle is cosmetically tired but nothing I can’t fix with some eBay parts (key fob, start button, drink holder sliding lid) and elbow grease. Needs a damn good interior clean too.
Also after initially scoffing at fixing the items for the reduced price I offered, the dealer came back today and offered to replace the lower control arms (since that’s a safety/roadworthy item) for my offer price. So I couldn’t refuse. They needed it gone and I wanted an L322 4.4 TDV8.
I figure I’ve got a $12k buffer to what I was contemplating paying for a more pristine example (which was a base model). Provided nothing catastrophic occurs, and I do a few things like the brakes and rotors myself, I should be well ahead.
I guess time will tell if I’m a complete fool or I got a bargain.
Regardless, I’m super excited to finally join the club and own a “real” Range Rover!
I’ve just moved back to Australia from living in the US for 8 years. Since cars and fuel are much cheaper over there, I took the opportunity to own a 2013 RRS Supercharged. Such an amazing vehicle I just had to go back to Land Rover when I returned to OZ. I WAS going to get a Disco, but then realized that I could actually get an L322 for about the same money. And a few helpful people here helped push this direction (ie no comparison between the two).
so...wish me luck!
step 1. Schedule a “B” service
step 2. Schedule a drivetrain fluid flush - gearbox, diffs, transfer case.
step 3. Shake my head and think “did I really just do that?!”

Well done Takb, at least you have gone into it with your eyes open.
It may even pay to have it professionally detailed when you have finished the mechanical and small part replacements; eg ceramic polish,
It does have all the fruit and will look a treat when finished, hope it's all smiles from here

Awesome model Rangie, well done! . Ask as many questions as you like, we love these vehicles!!
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Thanks all. I can’t wait to pick it up.
A proper professional detail is definitely high on the list of first things.
Looks like I’ll be lurking here and asking questions a lot more
in fact off to post my first question about towing electrics...
Thought I’d post an update. Finally picked up the vehicle about 2 weeks ago. So far really happy. After a decent clean (I spent hours on the first weekend doing a good interior detail) it’s come up a treat. Much better nick than I remembered when I first test drove it. Clearly this car has only done highway miles. The underbody is pristine.
As soon as I got it I booked it in for a B service (which included front and rear diff fluids) and checkover with my indie. That all went well. Did a smoke test on the intake and no leaks. He recommended a few (Costly) items after which he thinks it’ll be good for a long time with just regular maintenance.
- original gearbox pan so needs fluid and filter.
- transfer case weaping and dirty oil so needs a seal and fluid change
- did degrease and waiting for recheck on engine leak but looks like rear main seal and sump. Big job unfortunately. If that’s the issue rather than typical oil cooler washers then will need gearbox out and will do everything together.
- idler gears and belts need replacing
- brakes and rotors, which I knew and can do myself
So not much different to what I expected. Perhaps not as bad except for the leak. But that’s fixable and then should be good.
I did have one other issue pop up - kept getting suspension fault messages on rough road or under hard acceleration and car dropping to bump stops. Very offputting. Indie cleaned all electrical connections and fixed a broken clip but kept doing it. After a few days of forum trolling with the error code, I ended up concluding the suspension needed recalibration. So did that with the IID tool and the error went away! Plus the car rode a little smoother afterwards. So glad that was a simple fix although tricky to figure out (No leaks at least). might have been yet another reason I got the car for such a good price. Front left air strut was replaced at some point by previous owner which was the corner that was way out or calibration. So guessing parts got replaced without a recal. Previous owner must have been plagued with the errors.
So far I’m immensely impressed. Just did a 2 hr run up to Taree and it was a dream. Everything is smooth, effortless and comfortable. Did a little sand off roading this weekend and worked perfectly.
very happy camper (At least will be after the short term fixes are done).
A revised engine rear main seal was introduced at VIN BA343771.

Right. And mine is BA33.... Good info. Guess this is likely the leak issue.
Yes he does! The 4.4 is so smooth. It sounds like a diesel at idle and down low, but as the revs build, the character changes completely. Up higher it sounds amazing. And the 700nm feels brilliant.
