    L322 TD6 Transmission

Booked my L322 TD6 in for transmission service today at what is probably regard as Victoria, Australia's premier auto shop.
Car has 200 km . The transmission was rebuilt around 120k by the same shop, serviced at 160 and now getting a service on auto at 200 (40K intervals).
I was rather taken back when they asked if the transmission was ok as they state that they can service it but if it has problems (it does not) then they probably could not help as they can no longer get many parts.
That is a concern as I have had the car since new, still enjoy it with no thought of replacing it.
Has anyone come across this issue and been unable to repair their car due to unavailability of spares?

No.. But I believe the 4hp22 in the disco 2 is now suffering from 1 or 2 items NLA.

Different car and box I know, but similar vintage I guess. Bummer

Have a chat to Rhys at Furious Performance in Brookvale up in Sydney on 02 9907 4486 - he's a gun with these transmissions and will soon tell you if there are any supply issues with parts. Given variants of this transmission are in many vehicles including the Commodore, I would have thought parts would still be available. When he rebuilds them, he does several upgrades to them to strengthen them and make them live longer. Heck of a nice guy and easy to talk to - he rebuild the trans on mine many years ago which is still happily trundling around.

Yes parts are an issue as ZF stopped making parts years ago...not uncommon tho..I had a V6 3.0l Paj with Jap auto box for which certain critical parts were NLA less than 10 years after manufacture. Reconditioner instead used 2nd hand parts..again as is common in thr industry.

The early L332 TD6 like Uteman owns has a GM 5L40E auto in it not a ZF and was used for many years by local Commodores amongst other offerings. You may well be right re new parts but there are aftermarket parts and good second hand parts available for the GM box here in Aus due to the huge numbers of them that are still in service. For example, the Commodore had larger 1st gear clutch packs which can be fitted to the RR box and shift kits, clutches, valve parts, solenoids etc are all available aftermarket for these boxes and in a lot of cases better than what GM offered (which wasn’t hard given what a crappy box this is)
